Line-side fishing has been excellent so far this winter, but February can bring its own set of challenges. We need to keep a close eye on water temperatures. If the temperatures drop below 44 degrees, we can expect a shad kill.

When a shad kill occurs, fishing can get tough. However, you can still find success by changing your tactics. Our go-to bait during a kill is a 1/2 oz jigging spoon.

If we are lucky enough to avoid a kill, look for the fish to move South. The stretch from Bartow Carver to Iron Hill will be the most productive part of the lake.

Techniques for Success

Live bait: Free-lines and planer boards rigged with shad, trout, and shiners will produce bites from sunup to sundown.
Artificials: Trolling A-rigs this time of year is a great way to catch both quantity and quality.
